Blackbird (Mack-e-te-be-nessy) of the Ottawa, of the last words declared by Tecumtha to his fellow warriors, as he lay on the ground after being severely wounded by a musket ball in the leg, and prior to being swarmed over by many U.S. troops. Another account that was long given credence was that he was killed by Colonel Richard M. Johnson of Kentucky with a pistol shot, as Tecumtha leapt at the man on horseback with a tomahawk.
