Do you remember you shot a seagull? A man came by chance, saw it and destroyed it, just to pass the time.

It is rather interesting how you get used to death. I have had to go to inspect the troops in which case you run a very good chance — or I should say a reasonable chance — of being bombed or shot at from the air, and shelled or shot at from the ground.
I had the same experience every day which is for the first half-hour the palms of my hands sweat and I feel depressed. Then, if one hits near you, it seems to break the spell and you don't notice them anymore. Going back in the evening over the same ground and at a time when the shelling and bombing are usually heavier, you become so used to it you never think about it.George S. Patton
One of my first memories was of Martin Luther King being shot. I was five and if you wonder if this feeling will pass... [choked up]... When I was five and he was shot, here's what I remember about it: I was in school in Trenton and they turned the lights off and we got to sit under our desks... and we thought that was really cool. And they gave us cottage cheese, which was a cold lunch because there were riots, but we didn’t know that. We just thought, "My God! We get to sit under our desks and eat cottage cheese!" And that’s what I remember about it. And that was a tremendous test of this country's fabric and this country has had many tests before that and after that.

I'm known as a survivor now, I hope so, for the jail thing, bullets and everything, controversies and everything, I hope so. And I wanna be in the future known as somebody.. You know I want people to be talking about me like you know: " remember when he was real bad, remember when Tupac was real bad". You know what I mean, they do that about a lot of actors now, like John Travolta I read stories like "remember you were wild". And all these other people, and now they're like sweet hearts. We all should get that chance, I just want my chance.
Tupac Shakur
Good soldiers never pass up a chance to eat or sleep. They never know how much they'll be called on to do before the next chance.
Lois McMaster Bujold
The second time I got drunk I was 14. All the tellies in the house were smashed, my signed Muhammad Ali picture was destroyed, and I couldn't remember a second of any of it!
